Energy Balls / Granola Bars and Trail Mix Recipe

Our recent January 27th meeting had both beavers and cubs experimenting with different ingredients to create our own custom energy balls, granola bars, and trail mixes.  Take a look at our meeting plan and recipe below - this could be helpful for planning your own activity at home, planning a similar Scouting meeting safely as a guideline, or just to have the recipe readily accessible with some substitution ideas.  These are some of the ingredients we used - customized for our group's specific allergens, but there are lots of substitutions you can use for even more customized approach. Beaver Heroes and Mascots

Last week we used our imagination to design our own personalized beaver mascots or heroes.  Those selections would be provided to an image generation model (AI) that will generate a unique beaver mascot for each youth.  The results are in! GOOGLE DRIVE LINK TO RESULTS HOW WE DID IT Youth were given a sheet of paper and a variety of multiple choice questions for customizing their beaver.   We were a little rushed in doing this with the final ten minutes of our meeting. If anyone wants to take another shot at making their personalized mascot or hero, there's instructions down below.   Since everyone in the beavers age group could have different levels of penmanship, we opted to do a multiple choice from a selection of choices Scouter Chris gave the youth verbally.  Below are the questions we asked at our meeting: Questions from Tuesday April 21 Meeting 1. Write your first name at the top. (This becomes a title)  2. Where is your beaver locate...

Highlands Nordic, Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

The Seventh Collingwood Beavers and Cubs visited Highlands Nordic in Clearview this weekend. We braved the cold temperatures - this weekend event was already rescheduled once!  We split into two groups mostly by age - beavers started with snowshoeing and finished the day with nordic skiing, while the cubs started with the nordic skiing and finished with the snowshoeing.  Photos from our event can be found on the group's facebook page for parents.  We toured just a fraction of the property which was enough to keep us busy all day.  Nordic skiing was enough of a learning experience all by itself.  While we were snowshoeing we learned about some survival tips; How to build our sit spot to wait out a rescue if we're ever lost Priorities; Oxygen, Shelter, Water, Food,      - 3 minutes, 3 hours, 3 days, 3 weeks for our Air, Shelter, Water, and Food needs.  If we're lost; Stay in one place, Stay Calm and Help Rescuers Find You. Listen, but at the sa...

7th Collingwood Needs You

Scouting youth of Collingwood and area need you!      With the longevity of our newly formed Seventh Collingwood Group in mind, we would like to bring awareness to the ongoing need for Scouting Parents to volunteer as leaders, in order to continue providing the program, and expanding its availability to more youth in the community.         Many of our leaders have youth in the program, and as those youth 'age out' of certain groups (like swimming up from Beavers to Cubs, for instance) that parent volunteer may no longer have the time to continue providing the Beavers program their youth is no longer a part of.        Each program covers youth within three years of age. Beavers is 5-7, Cubs is 8-10, etc.  Our first year was Beavers only, and so we had  the most parent volunteers in this age group. We're on our second year of having re-started the local Scouting Group in Collingwood, which means by n...
