Last week we used our imagination to design our own personalized beaver mascots or heroes. Those selections would be provided to an image generation model (AI) that will generate a unique beaver mascot for each youth. The results are in!
HOW WE DID IT
Youth were given a sheet of paper and a variety of multiple choice questions for customizing their beaver. We were a little rushed in doing this with the final ten minutes of our meeting. If anyone wants to take another shot at making their personalized mascot or hero, there's instructions down below.
Since everyone in the beavers age group could have different levels of penmanship, we opted to do a multiple choice from a selection of choices Scouter Chris gave the youth verbally. Below are the questions we asked at our meeting:
Questions from Tuesday April 21 Meeting
1. Write your first name at the top. (This becomes a title)
2. Where is your beaver located? A - Pond/River/Wetlands, B - Top of a Mountain, C - In a forest wilderness.
3. What color is your beaver's fur? A - Brown, B - Rainbow, C - Purple, D - Gold and Silver
4. What is the picture style of your hero? A - Flat, Hand drawn or Classic Disney style cartoon, B - Pixar Style 3D rendering, C - Realistic photograph.
5. What is your beaver's favorite activity or skill? A - Fishing, B - Canoeing and Watersport, C - Tenting and Backpacking, D - Rollercoasters and Disneyland
The selections were put into a simple text file, where a script expanded the A,B,C,D selections into their appropriate choices and constructed our personalized image prompt, where each line would read something like
Chris,A,B,C,A
and then using a simple python script, it would turn into:
A beaver with rainbow fur is in a pond, wetland and rivers landscape and posed like a super hero in a realistic photograph style image. The beaver has fishing rod and tackle box surrounding them. There is a stylized title at the top that reads "Chris"
Our beaver age youth may have glossed over any technical information about how we do this but we have a lot of cubs who've expressed interest in science and technology so I've shared the python script used to expand our selections and avoid re-typing the same sentence 20 times.
We didn't get to do this activity with the cubs, as we had a full meeting planned already, but for any cubs who'd like to partake, or beavers who'd like to go again, please use the link below to send Scouter Chris another bunch of selections that eventually become our 'image prompt'.
